Pakistani journalist Saba Eitizaz who currently lives in exile talks about threats she received after she reported about Zeenat Shahzadi, a woman journalist who was allegedly abducted by Pakistan Army.

She was speaking at the Toronto Rights Conference this week, on a panel focusing on harassment and abuse that journalists in Pakistan face especially from the military establishment, and how such threats are gender-nuanced.

She received messages about being acid-attacked – a violent assault in which a person throws acid or a similarly corrosive substance onto the body of another “with the intention to disfigure, maim, torture, or kill”. The police did nothing to help her, and she was forced to move out of Pakistan.
